This scrutiny of memory is the subject of Toufic Hamidi’s retrospective exhibition, “Circle of Memories”. Motifs of reminiscence, extrication, and documentation all become the full focus of investigation. The Syrian-born artist cautiously creates an intimate world in which his personal reflections come together with the general human condition. Hamidi worked on both large canvas utilizing ink and acrylic as well as a series of prints using a manual piston compressor. References to overlooked images and memories and reflective speculations on themes that include death, love, beauty, and inspiration are all explored in this series of work.
